January 20th, 2009 was a day in my life that I will never forget....and it's not because of Laura McGaughey's birthday. :) However, it was the day that the United States of America swore in the first African-American president, Barack Obama. I caught the tail end of his "Oath of Office," and watching Obama reciting the oath was almost surreal to me. Yeah, just blame Dr. Bapat for keeping us the entire time, because learning the syllabus for Inorganic Chemistry is far more important than watching the Presidential Inauguration. The past 43 Presidents have been Caucasian, yet it's just unbelievable that we are now at a point in history where a Black President is in charge of the country. Being able to witness history adds another story under my belt that I can pass down to my kids (just throwing this out there, it won't be for a long time until I have kids...Thank God). but, all of the events that they had for the day just didn't really hit me until the next morning. The inauguration speech, the first dance between the President and the first lady, Beyonce' performing at the Inauguration Ball; I woke up the next morning asking myself if that really happened, following another 10 seconds...it hit me....we have a black president, I'm proud/happy/honored to say that I voted for our First Black President. THUG LIFE!
